The Cows · Page 31

A woman with a milk pail strokes a dark cow on a hilltop at sunset.

The future is uncertain. We no longer live in the stable times of the recent past. Perhaps cows and humans will disappear. Maybe we will give birth to other races. Until then, strive for understanding and recognition of our coexistence.

Our relationship with these animals is too important to dismiss and goes way beyond survival concerns.

If, rather than ‘exploitation,’ we could configure ‘cooperation,’ we might imagine a relationship where all parties benefit; we could pick up the threads of our coexistence and allow them to evolve more harmoniously.
