The Cows · Page 30

At a stone doorway, a farmer pours milk into a cup held by a young girl. A cow and her calf stand beside them.

Our young will share the milk with men. Humans will honor us again and treasure our gifts.

They will understand that we, the grasslands, and all of the predators and herders have evolved together as one inseparable whole.

Systems theory has shown us that whole systems cannot be understood by separating them into their individual parts; one part or element of the system exists because the other parts exist.

As soon as you take out an element, the whole system must sometimes readjust in drastic ways because of the way we have all evolved together over millennia.

Everything from the micro-fauna and flora in the soil to the giants of the plant and animal kingdom plays a role in this intricate and finely balanced equilibrium. We have gone a long way towards destroying this delicate balance with inappropriate and reductionist agricultural practices.
